About our Yarrow

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a perennial herb recognized by its finely divided, feather-like leaves and clusters of delicate white flowers. Named after the legendary Greek hero Achilles, who according to tradition used the plant on the battlefield, Yarrow has been valued for centuries and remains one of the most respected botanical ingredients in modern natural formulations.

Thriving in Bulgaria's favorable climate and fertile soils, Yarrow develops a rich aromatic profile that reflects both its botanical heritage and the environment in which it is grown. During flowering, the fields become alive with pollinators, while the blossoms reach their peak aromatic potential.

Planting

Yarrow is grown from carefully selected seeds, producing healthy young plants before they are transplanted into our fields. This cultivation method allows us to establish strong, uniform crops that develop consistently throughout the growing season.

Maturing

Throughout spring, Yarrow produces its characteristic feathery foliage before gradually developing tall flowering stems. Yarrow is one of the strongest plants we have ever seen. From the beginning, it rapidly eradicated unwanted weeds and made our lives as farmers much easier.

Flowering

As summer begins, Yarrow fields become covered with delicate white flower clusters that attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. This beautiful flowering period marks the stage when the plants have developed their richest aromatic profile and are approaching the ideal harvest time.

Harvest

Yarrow is harvested when colors start looking dull. This is when the concentration of aromatic compounds is at its highest. The freshly harvested flowering tops are transported promptly to the distillery, helping preserve their natural aroma and ensuring the highest quality essential oil and floral water.

Steam Distillation

Immediately after harvest, the fresh plant material undergoes gentle steam distillation. This traditional extraction method preserves the authentic botanical character of the plant. Our Yarrow essential oil is naturally colored in royal blue - a sign for premium quality and high azulene content.

Quality & Storage

Every batch of yarrow oil and yarrow hydrosol is carefully documented and stored under appropriate conditions to maintain freshness, stability, and complete traceability from our fields to the finished product. At a room temperature, yarrow oil solidifies in comparison to other essential oils which remain liquid.

Applications of Yarrow

A premium botanical ingredient appreciated for its fresh herbaceous aroma and naturally deep blue color, created by the formation of chamazulene during steam distillation.

Yarrow essential oil and floral water are incorporated into premium skincare, body care, haircare, soaps, and natural cosmetic formulations. Especially in remedy salves focused on pain relief.

Yarrow offers a fresh, green, and herbaceous aroma with soft earthy nuances and subtle camphoraceous notes.
